Offline mode reduces how widely translation content is shared. With the optional pack installed, GoThai processes typed text, photo text recognition, and the resulting translations in your browser. You can use this local processing while connected as well as when mobile data is unavailable.
The relevant setting is the mode in the tool you submit from. Check Offline in the text translator or the photo tool before translating. Installing the PWA or downloading course audio alone does not select local translation processing.
How do online and offline data flows differ?

GoThai’s translation endpoints do not store the submitted text, photos, recognized text, or results in GoThai’s database or object storage. This describes GoThai’s storage behavior; online providers process submissions under their own terms. The privacy policy covers the processing and storage boundaries.
What happens if the local engine fails?
GoThai does not automatically upload an offline translation input to the online service when the pack is missing or local processing fails. You can retry, use a shorter message or clearer picture, or deliberately select Online for a new submission.
Changing to Online changes where the next submitted content is processed. Check the mode again after opening a tool, changing devices, or preparing a new photo session.
What can still use a connection?
Downloads, sign-in, membership checks, and learning synchronization remain network services when available. Online speech playback or speech processing is separate from the selected text or photo translation engine. Website analytics and other page resources can also use a connection while you are online.
The local-processing advantage applies to translation content. It does not establish that every website request is disabled. GoThai’s analytics setup does not add translation text, photos, or recordings to custom analytics events; see the analytics and provider details in the privacy policy.
How should I handle saved local results?
Saved machine translations remain in the browser after sign-out and can be visible to someone who uses that browser profile. They do not synchronize to your account. Remove an individual saved entry from My words when you no longer need it, and consider who can access the device where you export a photo.
Clearing site data removes local saved text and downloaded resources. Browsers can also remove stored resources under storage pressure; MDN’s storage guide explains this behavior. Check the pack before a day without connectivity and keep essential travel details separately accessible.
Prepare local translation before your trip
Use the offline setup guide to download the pack with an eligible Pro account and test text and photos on your travel device. For a practical first test, choose a clear sample menu, direction sign, or shop notice.
