BEFORE YOU GO

Thailand Arrival Checklist: Before You Fly

Save your hotel address, plan the first journey, and put the essentials within reach before you fly.

Put the first journey on one screen

Before packing a long itinerary, make a short arrival note you can open without mobile data. Include the airport code on your booking, the name and full address of your accommodation in Thai, its map pin, the booking reference, and the check-in instructions. Ask the accommodation for its written Thai address rather than translating the property name yourself.

A name alone may point to another branch. Put the district or neighborhood beside it and keep a screenshot of the map with the destination marked. If you are meeting a driver, save the meeting instructions separately from your flight confirmation.

Check entry information for your own trip

Use Thailand’s official e-Visa portal and the relevant Thai embassy or consulate to check what applies to your passport, purpose of travel, and dates. This checklist does not determine your eligibility to enter Thailand. Keep the documents required for your journey accessible and check again before departure.

Save important booking and document copies securely. Keep a backup separate from the originals, and avoid putting passport images or account passwords into a shared travel note.

Decide what you need before leaving the airport

Work through these questions while you still have time to make arrangements:

  • How will you get online? Check whether your phone and selected SIM or eSIM plan are compatible, and save the activation instructions.
  • How will you reach the accommodation? Compare the complete airport-to-hotel journey, including the last part after any train ride.
  • Can you contact the property? Save its contact details and instructions for a late arrival.
  • What can you open offline? Keep your address, bookings, and a few useful phrases available even if connectivity is delayed.

Avoid making every part of your arrival depend on a single app or a working data connection. A written destination is useful even when your mapping or ride-booking app is unavailable.

Prepare one conversation, not a phrasebook

Start with a greeting, a thank-you, and a way to ask someone to repeat themselves. Listen to the examples in GoThai’s beginner lessons and practice saying them before departure. It is useful to recognize a reply as well as deliver a memorized question.

If you plan to use GoThai without mobile data, follow the offline translator setup guide while connected. Downloaded lesson audio and the optional translator pack are separate resources; test the ones you intend to use.

Do a final phone check

Open your arrival note, booking, and hotel address once with the network disabled. Charge your phone and keep your charging cable accessible. When everything you need for the first journey is easy to find, return to the longer itinerary later.
